The Detroit Economic Growth Corporation and a group
of other economic development agencies are actively seeking proposals to
redevelop three historic buildings surrounding Capitol Park in downtown
Detroit.
- 1145 Griswold - The Capitol Park Building, 11
stories, 72,000 sq. ft., built in 1912. With its prominent façade facing both
Griswold and State Streets, the Capitol Park Building is a perfect gateway to
the neighborhood. It could accommodate between 60 and 70 middle-income apartments
as well as first floor retail.
- 1212 Griswold - The former United Way headquarters, 13 stories, 126,000 sq. ft., built in 1895. This building is the
largest of the three properties, and is in excellent condition. Its size and
unique design with an enclosed courtyard atrium make it suitable for retail or
commercial uses on the lower floors and apartments surrounding the atrium.
- 1249 Griswold - The Farwell Building, 8
stories, 110,000 sq. ft., built in 1913. The interior of the Farwell Building
was designed by Louis Tiffany. The upper floors are well suited for residential
conversion and the lower floors offer good spaces for offices or retail around
an atrium.
The area one block west of Woodward Ave. is considered a prime location for a mixture of residences, offices and retail stores. Interested Developers should download the complete
Capitol Park Development RFP for more detailed information.
