The Green Grocer Project will help create competitive, sustainable grocery offerings in Detroit while improving fresh food offerings for residents. The Green Grocer
Project was launched with a $500,000 seed grant from The Kresge Foundation. DEGC will manage the program, which
includes:
- A Grocer Clearinghouse
for existing store operators and those operators interested in making new investments
in Detroit.
- Technical Assistance:
The Program will assist participating grocers in addressing operational and
store development needs that they encounter on a daily basis, in order to
ensure the highest quality provision of fresh foods at the store.
- Loan funding for store
improvements: The City of Detroit plans to allocate $500,000 in CDBG-R funds to
seed a revolving loan fund at DEGC.
In addition, staff will assist grocers in accessing other financing sources
to carry out the improvements identified through the technical assistance
program.
