A GLOBAL MANUFACTURING POWERHOUSE
Detroit has been at the forefront during each stage of industrial evolution, and that trend continues today. Detroit’s advanced manufacturing companies generate approximately $60 billion in annual revenue and employ roughly 350,000 people. Job growth in this sector outpaces the national average by 5 percent annually, and when it comes to talent, Detroit is nationally ranked. Making things is in our DNA. The Detroit region is number one in the U.S. for advanced manufacturing jobs and number two in manufacturing talent. Our region is first in the country for engineering services and industrial design job growth.
Detroit is creating the technologies and workforce of the future. Here are some examples:
- Lightweight Innovations for Tomorrow, a public/private partnership focused on lightweight materials and manufacturing technologies, is located in Detroit.

- Flex-N-Gate, a leading manufacturer and supplier of components for the automotive industry, has started construction on a strategically located facility on Detroit’s east side.
