The Economic Development Corporation of the City of Detroit (EDC) is seeking creative proposals for the development of the former site of Tiger Stadium at Michigan Avenue and Trumbull, with a tentative deadline for applications of August 2, 2010. The 9.5 acre site is just west of downtown Detroit, with close access to major freeways. It is bounded by the south Interstate 75 (NW) Fisher Freeway service drive; Cochrane Avenue (SW), Michigan Avenue (SE), and Trumbull Avenue (NE).
The EDC has not placed any specific restrictions on potential uses for the site, but an existing Project Plan and Brownfield Plan both anticipate a mixed-use project for the site. All proposals for the site must include a substantive financial plan.
Besides the excellent location, the site offers significant other benefits. It was designated a Renaissance Zone by the City of Detroit in 2000 - exempting residents and businesses from virtually all State and local taxes for a period of 12 years, with the possibility of an extension. The site's approved Brownfield plan also offers additional financial incentives.
The EDC has scheduled a mandatory pre-submittal meeting on July 14, 2010, and has set the due date for applications as August 2, 2010. A link to the complete request for proposals and suplemental information are below. Specific questions should be directed to the the EDC at
