Alternative Energy

Alternative Energy is an industry with great potential for growth in Detroit for a number of reasons. In this instance, alternative energy refers to the wind, solar, biomass, advanced storage, and energy efficiency segments of the sector.

Detroit is home to Wayne State University as well as outreach centers from the University of Michigan and Michigan State University. Established in Detroit's Alternative Energy Zone, TechTown and NextEnergy are two major organizations that serve as a vehicle for emerging businesses in the energy field. From business incubators to assistance with energy technology commercialization, Detroit has the tools, supply chain and infrastructure to support small R&D to large scale manufacturing investments.
