Detroit is home to a successful food economy, ranging from Eastern Market, one of the largest and oldest public markets in the country, to a burgeoning urban agriculture network. Eastern Market is also the center of Detroit's food processing and wholesale distribution industry in addition to its weekly public market.
Detroit's urban agriculture sector helps provide fresh food access to residents and is part of the larger agriculture network that links Michigan and Ontario, Canada.
The DEGC has launched the
Green Grocer Program to help create competitive, sustainable grocery offerings in Detroit while improving fresh food offerings for residents.
