ArcelorMittal Opens Detroit Manufacturing Plant
In 2016, ArcelorMittal Tailored Blanks Americas Corporation, a subsidiary of the Luxembourg steel producer ArcelorMittal, announced its intention to spend $83 million to set up a new manufacturing plant in Detroit and create at least 120 jobs over five years. The Michigan Strategic Fund is providing a $2 million performance-based grant for the project.
ArcelorMittal will move into a 317,000-sqaure-foot building in the I-94 industrial park with Flex-N-Gate. It will be ArcelorMittal’s first Michigan manufacturing operation, and will produce high strength, laser-welded steel blankets for use in the automotive industry. In addition to the grant, DEGC is offering a property tax incentive to ArcelorMittal.
