Motor City Match now accepting Round 22 applications

Dec 1, 2022

Motor City Match, a program helping Detroiters bring their dreams of entrepreneurship to reality, is accepting applications for its Round 22 grant awards. The program will award a total of $1.25 million to up to 40 Detroit-based entrepreneurs interested in opening a new brick-and-mortar location or business owners looking for improvements and investments to their existing space.

Applications are being accepted from December 1 to January 15, 2023, and can be found at https://apply.motorcitymatch.com/submit. The application period was extended by 15 days due to the holiday season. Program officials will also host informational sessions for interested applicants in the coming weeks.

Motor City Match doubled its grant pool in August, increasing funding from $500,000 in grants every quarter to $1 million for new businesses. Additionally, the program is now offering up to $250,000 in grants to existing Detroit businesses that have been open in a brick-and-mortar space for 1 year or more. The expanded impact was made possible by $15 million in American Rescue Plan Act funding approved by the Detroit City Council.

Motor City Match offers business owners a wide range of assistance in five tracks Plan, Develop, Design, Cash, and Restore. The program helps Detroit entrepreneurs plan, formalize, launch, and grow their business by providing business planning classes, site-selection assistance, financial planning, legal aid, design services, and gap funding.

Since 2015, Motor City Match has awarded more than 1,600 businesses. Those awards, both cash grants and services, have resulted in 141 new brick & mortar businesses currently operating throughout the city.
