Shop local this season with DEGC Holiday Gift Guide

Dec 5, 2018

From Hafsa Khan, Small Business Coordinator

Holiday shopping can be fun and exciting, or stressful and exasperating. Whatever camp you find yourself in this season, the DEGC’s 2018 Holiday Gift Guide is for you.

DEGC created the gift guide to help shoppers buy locally, stay on a budget and eliminate the stress sometimes associated with finding the perfect gift for loved ones. The guide features 50 gifts of all types priced under $50 dollars. What’s best is that all 50 gifts are available from local Detroit retailers.

“Spending in the city is just one more way to strengthen our communities,” said Mike Rafferty, DEGC Vice President, Small Business Services. “In addition to helping Detroit, the gift guide will help you find a variety of practical, unique and fun items all value priced. We’re making shopping local easy and stress-free to help everyone enjoy holidays, including our neighborhoods’ cherished small business owners.”

The gift guide launched Nov. 24, 2018 in association with Small Business Saturday. Together with the City, our small business owners, and a variety of private and public partners, the DEGC is helping the Shop Small movement gain momentum in Detroit throughout the year.

“We hope the gift guide will introduce everyone to the incredible retail that exists in Detroit and encourage people to shop small all year long,” Rafferty said. “If we want to see more retail in the city, we have the responsibility to support local businesses. These stores stabilize our communities and make our neighborhoods strong.”
